Miyu Yamashita has finally proven herself as one of the best wrestlers in the world in 2022. Yamashita, known as “The Pink Striker,” is a founding member of TJPW and their ace. For nine years, she has proven her fierce competitiveness. She is precise and violent, landing heavy kicks on unlucky opponents with a cold face.
She began the year as TJPW Princess of Princess Champion (since April 15, 2021) and held the title until March 19, 2022. During her reign, she defended against Mizuki, Maki Itoh, Yuka Sakazaki, and Sakisama before losing the title to Shoko Nakajima. She also defeated the AEW Women’s World Champion, Thunder Rosa, in a TJPW bout, instigating the first part of her US tour in late spring.
Additionally, this was Yamashita’s first major year journeying to the US. and she went on live television with AEW to face Thunder Rosa for the AEW Women’s Championship. Though she was unsuccessful, many more eyes turned to her work as she began roaming the US indie circuit, debuting at Prestige, RCW, and DPW respectively. Yamashita is also the current Pro Wrestling EVE Champion since defeating Alex Winsdor for the title on November 13. In the early stages of her reign, she has already proven herself against Riho and Millie Mackenzie to retain the title.
Miyu Yamashita has been a standout talent this year, at last recognized on a global scale for all of the blood, sweat, and tears she has put into the sport. For this reason, as well as her title successes and incredible matchups over the last 365 days, she is ranked number eight in our Top Women’s Wrestler’s list of the year.
