At WrestleMania 38 on April 2, Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch to win her first Raw Women’s Championship.
Today, Oct. 19, is Belair’s 200th day as champion. She is the first Black World Champion (male or female) in WWE history to hold the title for 200 days in a single title reign. Her recent victory over Bayley at Extreme Rules enabled her to cross this accomplishment off her list. She learned that she would reach this milestone in an interview with WWE BT Sport before her match against Bayley.
“We gotta make this happen. That’s a huge milestone. I want to keep breaking those barriers and be that person that shows this is possible and keep riding with it. So, even more pressure.”
After all that she has endured, Belair has climbed the mountain and continues to make history. The native of Knoxville became the first African-American woman to win the 2021 Women’s Royal Rumble. At WrestleMania 37, Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks became the first African-American women to compete in a singles match on wrestling’s grandest stage.
Bianca is indeed the “it” factor due to her extraordinary athleticism. She will become one of WWE’s all-time greats based on her ring skills, appearance, and charisma. However, it’s impossible not to compare her NXT days to her current status on the main roster. Six years ago, when she made her NXT debut, Belair was a formidable opponent.
Belair was bred to be the best from the time she was a child. She was the upcoming big star in NXT, a future champion, and on the main roster. Even though Belair had little experience when she was first introduced to the wrestling world, she outperformed the majority of the women on the women’s main roster and the entire NXT women’s division. Despite her arrogance, Belair was damn impressive. She sped past her opponents without pausing, beating them over the head with her infamous whipped braid.
Given that she successfully executed a perfect 450 splash on Kairi Sane in the second round of the competition, it is not surprising that she brought her competitive nature to the Mae Young Classic. Although there was much discussion about whether Belair should have won the Mae Young Classic, fans believed she belonged on a bigger stage. When Belair made her first appearance in the 2020 Royal Rumble, she set a new record for the number of women eliminated from the competition overall. She competed for 33 minutes and eliminated eight of her opponents.
In 2022, Belair has risen to the top of the women’s division. Her growth has been incredible to observe. With 2023 quickly approaching, Belair has one more objective to accomplish: dethroning The Queen.
