Mercedes Moné vs Queen Aminata

This week was red hot with AEW heading back to Europe to showcase some fantastic matches for the AEW dynamite Grand Slam France episode.

The perfect crowd was in attendance to cheer on this match between AEW World Women’s Champion Mercedes Monè and Queen Aminata.

As someone that has been an Aminata for a while, this has been a treat to see her get this opportunity to try to get that prized championship.

The announcement of this match was met with such enthusiasm from the fans in attendance at the top of the show.

Then we were treated to a backstage interview with Queen Aminata which got big cheers from the crowd as she spoke in French and made sure to show them love.

I really liked how AEW made sure to remind the crowd that this match was a big one and that this was an awesome opportunity for Aminata to be showcased on a grand stage.

Aminta’s hair and gear was amazing. I love the commentary team giving a backstory to Aminata’s journey.

From going to law school in Paris years ago, to coming back to compete in a women’s world title match.

Ms. Moné or “Big D Moné” as she likes to be called now comes out with a red bedazzled mask and matching beret swinging that coveted title between her legs.

Aminata awaits in the middle of the ring and is all business. Aminata goes for the attack as soon as the bell rings.

Taking Mercedes to the corner and delivering hard blows. Mercedes locks in her signature face submission hold, but Aminata gets out and goes back to the offensive.

Mone stays on her toes and is able to deliver some hard knees to Aminata’s face off the apron to gain control.

Aminata is refreshed after the commercial break and delivers some lariats and a duplex that kind of stuns Mercedes.

The three amigos is brought out of the champs bag to an excited crowd, but Aminata gets a hell of a neck breaker in on Mercedes right after that. The queen is not taking this match lightly. That’s for sure!

Aminata just stays on Mercedes during this match. Not taking a breather. It’s so good to see Aminata getting ruthless with this matchup.

Mercedes is getting battered during the middle part of this match. The veteran uses the outside of the ring to get a breather and to set a trap for the eager challenger.

A chair is set up for Aminata, but Aminata counters it and kicks the crap out of Moné while she in the chair.

Both women look absolutely drained, but both know that this is a match that neither can lose.

Queen Aminata feels confident and goes up to the top rope to launch herself, bur Moné counters and delivers the lawn mower AND the money maker to get the win.

The CEO retains, but this was a hell of a match for Queen Aminata.

The toxic spider Thekla comes out right after Moné gets her hand raised and attacks to champ.

To make it clear that at WrestleDream she will be coming for that heavyweight championship.

Overall, this was a wonderful showcase for the women on the first night of Gran Slam France and a great buildup to WrestleDream.

Be sure to watch Grand Slam France Night 2 on Saturday’s special collision  episode at 8pm est!
