Making It Boujee: Aliyah

A native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Nhooph Al-Areebi, known by her ring name, Aliyah, is descended from Syrians and Iraqis. She was raised in a strict, orthodox environment. When Al-Areebi was 16, she was given the opportunity to train as a wrestler at a nearby warehouse but did not originally inform her parents. Initially, she claims that she informed them that she was doing a shift at work. They came to her employment one day in search of her. In the beginning, she fell in love with the big-name wrestlers and the stories they told. She names John Cena and Edge as two of her favorite wrestlers, as well as fellow Canadian Trish Stratus.

Al-Areebi competed on the independent circuit as Jasmin Areebi, making her debut in January 2013 for Squared Circle Wrestling (SCW) in Toronto. Among the promotions she worked for were Pure Wrestling Association (PWA), Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), and the New England Championship Wrestling (NECW), which were all in Canada and the United States (NECW).

She got a developmental contract with WWE in 2015 and was assigned to NXT. On May 20, she made her debut as part of Tyler Breeze’s entrance at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable. After signing, she was renamed Aliyah and exploited as an enhancement talent. She made her NXT televised and house show debuts in 2016.

Liv Morgan, Ember Moon, Peyton Royce, Billie Kay, Io Shirai, Kairi Sane, Rhea Ripley, and Dakota Kai were among the NXT superstars she competed against. She partnered with the Robert Stone brand in 2020. In the end, they kicked her out of the group because she didn’t impress him. She paired with Stone to fight Ripley at NXT The Great American Bash and was defeated.

Aliyah was selected to SmackDown at the Draft. On January 14, she beat Natalya in 3.17 seconds in her first match. That was the fastest victory in wrestling history. She competed in tag and six-woman tag fights with Sasha Banks and Naomi. At Survivor Series, she was confirmed as a member of Team SmackDown. Sonya Deville, on the other hand, withdrew her from the squad. She previously partnered with Naomi and was defeated by Natalya and Shayna Baszler. Aliyah recently, participated in the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble before being eliminated by Charlotte Flair.

However, there will be no stopping Aliyah until she proves that she is worth all the attention.
