The Forbidden Door PPVs has always maintained the reputation of having dream matches and unforgettable moments. This match between Maya and Mercedes Moné held that standard up and then some.
Let’s talk about an Owen Hart Tournament finals match, that is in my opinion, one of the best in the history so far of this tournament.
Maya came into this match not forgetting the attack from Mercedes from Collision and definitely waiting to get some blows in. Immediately, Maya went to shove the face of Moné and went for a quick pin that didn’t give her the win. A little overeager sure, but, still effective to show that she means business against one of her idols Moné.
This start to the match is fast paced with the fans chanting both of their names.
Maya is holding her own against the former champ. The IT girl Maya goes for a cannonball drop outside of the ring and takes control… for a moment.
Maya tries to use Mone’s statement maker against her, but only helps to piss Mercedes off.

Veteran like precision is shown with Mercedes as she takes it to Maya early on.
A suplex from Maya shows that she has a big bite to her and won’t let this opportunity slip through her fingers during this tournament.
As Mercedes takes over in the match again, you can tell from the trademark smirk that she’s wearing that she feels that she is closer to winning the Owen hart tournament for a second consecutive year.
Before Maya is counted out, Mercedes brings her back to the ring and gives her a back stabber. Maya successfully buys time to gain control.
Both women fight to get a suplex in. Ending with Mercedes getting a brutal curb stomp in.

Maya doesn’t let the taunts and evil words of Mercedes get to her throughout this match. It only pushes her on. Fuels her to complete her cinderella story.
We see the influence of Maya’s mentor Athena in her offense. Even when they are at odds with one another, Athena’s presence is felt.

Mercedes gets her three amigos in. With the extreme confidence or cockiness to boot. Mercedes steps over Maya as she attempts a frog splash. Maya counters it.
Mercedes gets the statement maker in. Maya counters it and throws a hard blow to the CEO.
Maya dumps Mercedes through the ropes and then gets a bit aerial to fly through the ropes. If that wasn’t enough, Maya then proceeds pulls out a senton from the top ropes.
However, this does not deliver a successful pin.

The CEO gets a sunset flip bomb in, but Maya doesn’t let Moné get a successful pin in. Maya surprisingly kicks out of a money maker.
Chants for Maya taunts Moné as she tries to continue, even covering her ears from hearing that the Forbidden Door crowd is behind Maya in every way possible.
Maya gives a vicious sunset powerbomb to the ground that causes Mone’s head to hit the floor with a startling thud. A moonsault press from the top rope follows. And even then, Mercedes Moné kicks out of the pin.
At this point these women will fight forever!!
Neither one of them wants to see the other make it to Wembley Stadium for All in to challenge the women’s world champion.
Maya gets a statement maker in. Mercede’s counters it. The arena becomes unglued as they root for Maya. Screaming at the top of their lungs.

Maya gets out of the statement maker, we breathe a sigh of relief…. AND then gets put back in submission hold.
Merely because the CEO wants to get the glory of seeing Maya tap to lose this big time matchup.
To have her idol that she looked up to take away her championship dreams.
Unfortunately, for the many that were rooting for Maya World that night, they had to see the many attempts to get her to tap out from Mercedes Moné finally pay off.
The former 13 title holding champion is headed to ALL In.

What a hell of a match!!!
A star was made in this match, the storytelling was just as strong as the exquisite moves showcased by each women.
This Owen Hart Women’s tournament has shown how many talented and passion women are on the current roster and how hungry they are to be a champion in AEW.
For what I’ve seen over the past few months, ALL IN and the build up for this Women’s World championship match in London will probably steal the show!!
