WWT Top 25 Women Wrestlers of 2022: #9 Mickie James

Before taking flight on her last rodeo, Mickie James enters 2022 as the IMPACT! Knockouts World Champion. In addition, she goes on to Hard To Kill, defeating Deonna Purrazzo in a Texas Death Match. To top it all off, James becomes the first-ever Knockout to hold and be recognized as the IMPACT! Knockouts World Champion, entering the 2022 WWE Women’s Royal Rumble.

This moment alone set a different tone for women’s wrestling moving forward. It pushes the mold of women in wrestling and the importance of representation across all brands. Furthermore, this gave many fans a true moment to see a woman step through what is considered to be the “Forbidden Door” of professional wrestling.

After losing the championship and putting a pause to her feud with Tasha Steelz, James finds a new friend in Chelsea Green. As we know, that did not last too long. The significance of their feud went over to other promotions including NWA. After their one-on-one match on #IMPACTonAXSTV over the summer, Green cheats to win. In addition, this sends James packing, leaving many fans unsure of what is next.

And then, it happens. Mickie James comes to Dallas, Texas to announce her last rodeo. After all these months, James has defeated the likes of Gisele Shaw, Mia Yim, and Deonna Purrazzo on the journey back to the top. This year alone, James continues to make history, earning her spot in our top ten, rightfully.

As we prepare for the new year, James is currently awaiting one of the biggest matches of her career. We circle back to Hard To Kill and James has her sights to regain the IMPACT! Knockouts World Championship.
