  • The Future of the Virtuosa: Deonna Purrazzo is STILL a Champion!

According to the Dictionary, Virtuosa is “a woman with exceptional talent or skill,” which Deonna Purrazzo represents. She became a household name, making everyone pay attention to the number 3 spot on PWI Women’s 150 List. For the past year, Purrazzo continued to make her mark in wrestling with notable victories at Turning Point and NWA Empowerrr. The dynamic she brings to the Knockouts division displays a grace of power and dominance, leading her to hold two separate promotional titles simultaneously. Many will say her partnership with Drama King gave her quite the advantage during her Knockouts reign. However, this only displays a piece of her journey. However, their victory at Homecoming led to Drama King becoming a non-factor in this battle between her and Mickie James, banned from ringside. Deonna Purrazzo loss to Mickie James comes as a shock to many. James became a 4-time Knockouts champion and allowed women in the division to face the legend of Hardcore Country. The number one contender for the Knockouts championship is Mercedes Martinez, which creates questions about the next direction for The Virtuosa. Photo credit: Impact Wrestling So, what is next for Purrazzo? Let us not forget, that the title of this article proclaims, that she is still a champion. As she continues her first reign as AAA Reina de Reinas, the opponents are endless. The dropping of the Knockouts championship opens the door for more focus on her current title while finding new competitors along the way. I would love to see a match between a long-time friend and current AEW Women’s Champion, Dr. Britt Baker. Each of these women is at the top of their game right now, so the clash would be electric. However, the forbidden door seems to be stuck in the men’s bathroom. Hopefully, we see more women from different promotions face each other and give the fans what they want in cross-promotion. With her absence on the latest episode of Impact Wrestling, where does this leave the former Knockouts Champion? As we await her return, one fact stands: The Virtuosa is far from done. #deonnapurrazzo #Impact

  • PWI Women’s 150- Top 10!

Many of us waited with anticipation about who made the PWI’s Women’s 150 lists. Thus list each year gets people talking, and this list did the same thing. I was fortunate enough to have the list info before it was released, so I got to think about the list in extent before it went out to the public. For this, though, I will only be talking about the top 10. Top 10 of the PWI Women’s 150 Bianca Belair (WWE- Raw) Utami Hayashishita (Stardom) Deonna Purazzo (Impact) Britt Baker (AEW) Thunder Rosa (AEW) Sasha Banks (WWE- SmackDown) Syuri (Stardom) Io Shirai (WWE– NXT) Tam Nakano (Stardom) Raquel Gonzalez (WWE- NXT) Raquel González 10. Raquel González Making her PWI debut on the list, Raquel came in at number 10. It is a fantastic feat to start in the top 10 for a list she never ranked before. Raquel is a second-generation professional wrestler, following her father, Rick González. A former NXT Tag Team Champion, a title she held with Dakota Kai. Gonzalez is also the inaugural winner of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, which she did with Dakota. Raquel’s career has made quite the uphill turn in the past year, and though she recently lost the belt to Mandy Rose at Halloween Havoc, I am interested to see what she does next. Tam Nakano 9. Tam Nakano Tam Nakano wrestles under Stardom, where she is currently the Wonder of Stardom Champion. Nakano has been dominating in all her matches this past year. She is trained in kungfu and pays tribute to that with her ring gear and wrestling techniques. I am excited to see what Tam does next. Io Shirai 8. Io Shirai Io Shirai is one of my favorite women in wrestling right now. When she came back as a heel to do what was necessary to win the championship, she did so with perfection. Io has one of the best moonsaults in WWE. At the top of her game, Io came back from injury, competing in great matches such as a ladders match against Charlotte Flair. She renewed a rivalry with Candice LeRae and competed in the first Tables, Ladders, and Scares match at WWE’s Halloween Havoc in 2020. Io held the NXT women’s title for 304 days. She also became the NXT Women’s Tag Champion with Zoey Stark. Io has had a fantastic year, and deserving made it to the top 10. Syuri 7. Syuri Syuri works under Stardom, where she is the current SWA World Champion. She is proficient in shoot boxing, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts. She also formerly competed in UFC. Syuri is dominant and someone to watch in Stardom. In the last year alone, she has dominated in Stardom, and this spot fits her. Sasha Banks 6. Sasha Banks Now, Sasha Banks, aka The Boss, has many accolades under her belt. She was also part of the historic first-ever Women’s WrestleMania Main Event. While Sasha moved down from 3 to 6, she still made the top 10 proving her dominance in wrestling. Sasha is a 1-time NXT Women’s champion, a five-time WWE Raw Women’s Champion, a 1-time SmackDown Women’s Champion, and a two-time Women’s Tag Team Champion all under WWE. She is also the fourth woman to be a WWE Triple Crown Champion and the 3rd to become a WWE Women’s Grand Slam Champion. Sasha is also making moves outside of wrestling, appearing in two episodes of The Mandalorian as Koska Reeves. Thunder Rosa #5 Thunder Rosa Thunder Rosa has been making a name for herself for years. With owning Mission Pro and making the women in her roster shine, Rosa has dominated several promotions. Rosa has held many titles in her career, but she started letting others who may not have known her work once she became a familiar figure in AEW. She is hard-working, and I believe she surpassed Britt Baker. Lol! I take what comes with what I said. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D # 4. Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. AEW’s current Women’s champion and wrestling’s favorite dentist ranked #4 on the list. She became the champion in May 2021 after defeating Hikaru Shida. While she has been on an upswing since becoming champ, she has been booked in various matches, feuds, and promos that have her fans wanting more. I believe she was ranked too high on the list as I think she needs a bit more work on the ring. However, I can admit that she has gotten much better. A significant component was her match with Thunder Rosa, which was AEW’s first women’s main event. Deonna Purazzo #3: Deonna Purazzo Since Deonna Purazzo was let go from WWE in April 2020, she has been on a roll. She had owned her greatness, becoming one of Impact’s most decorated wrestlers and doing so in a short amount of time.  She had the Knockouts Championship 2 times, recently losing it to Mickie James. She was also named IMPACT Wrestler and Knockout of the year in 2020. Deonna Purazzo has proven to be exceptional, and I do not doubt that she may even take the number one spot if she continues what she is doing. Utami Hayashisita #2: Utami Hayashisita I recently was introduced to Utami, and she has stunned me with just how good she is. She wrestles in Japan for Stardom. She is 23 years old and new to the wrestling game and has repeatedly shown that she will be more prominent as time goes on. Currently holding the World of Stardom Champion, she won the 5 Star GP in 2020, the 5 Star GP award, and Best Match in the same tournament. As the winner of having the Best Match of the Year award against Mayu Iwatani in November 2020. Utami participated in a dark match at Wrestle Kingdom 15 on Night 2. She could very well be number one on next year’s list. Bianca Belair On October 21, 2021, it was announced that Bianca Belair topped Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Women’s 150. This made her the PWI’s top women wrestler in the world. PWI’s Kristen Ashly broke the news on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast. Bianca won the Women’s Royal Rumble in January 2021. She also participated in the main event of WrestleMania 36 with Sasha Banks, where she captured the SmackDown Women’s Championship for the very first time. A historic moment in wrestling and all the Black girls and Black women who are fans of wrestling. A moment that won Banks and Belair an ESPY this year. Belair has style, grace, and in your face with everything that she presents. Her athleticism and humility, doing everything with near perfection. There was no one else deserving of this position. I know many may disagree, but I say with the utmost kindness, you are wrong! While I disagreed with some of the spots on the overall list, it was nice to see more women added to the list. I was also a bit peeved that some great women were left off. With that being said, I cannot wait to see what the list in 2022 brings me. #SashaBanks #Stardom #PWIWomens150 #WWESmackDown #IoShirai #PWI150 #TamNakano #Syuri #nxt #deonnapurrazzo #WWERAW #RaquelGonzalez #BiancaBelair #WWENXT #BrittBaker #SmackDown #ThunderRosa #Raw #WWE #AEW #Impact #ProWrestlingIllustrated #UtamiHayashishita #PWI

  • Britt Baker Set To Face Abadon In Halloween Gimmick Match On AEW Rampage

On Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, it was announced that AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker would take on Abadon in a Trick or Treat No DQ Match on Friday’s AEW Rampage. After Baker walked out on her match against Abadon on the Jericho Cruise, Tony Khan says she will have to make up for that, so he booked a match for Friday’s show. If Abadon wins, she will receive a future title shot opportunity. However, we know that the champion would have a few tricks up her sleeve. During an interview segment on Dynamite, Baker found out about her match with “The Living Dead Girl” and had a few words for her challenger. “I got a couple of tricks. We will see you then. We will see you Friday on Rampage Abadon. Trick or treat Abby, yours truly Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D.” Credit: AEW If Baker remains on Friday, she will have to prepare for her next challenger Tay Conti, who ran off Baker and her entourage, Rebel and Jamie Hayter, on last week’s episode of Rampage. Baker defeated Conti’s best friend and ‘TayJay’ tag team partner Anna Jay to retain her AEW Women’s World title. Baker told Conti during a backstage promo: “All you have done since coming to AEW is show everybody you are a**. I am showing everybody why I am the most talked about name in all women’s wrestling.” D.M.D has reigned as champion since May 30, when she dethrones Hikaru Shida for the title at Double or Nothing. She successfully defended her belt, including a notable victory over Ruby Soho at Dynamite: Grand Slam on September 22. Previously, Conti challenged Shida for the AEW Women’s champion on the April 21 episode of Dynamite; unfortunately, she did not win the match. Full Gear will be held on November 13 at the Target Center in Minneapolis. However, will Tay Conti be facing Britt Baker or the new champion, Abadon? #Abadon #AEW #BrittBaker #Rampage

  • Jessika Carr Discuss Edge Influencing Her To Referee At WWE Crown Jewel

WWE referee Jessika Carr made history as the first woman to work several matches at WWE Crown Jewel. After being booked on the show, her journey started at SummerSlam, where she worked a singles match between Seth Rollins and Edge. During an interview with Table Talk #94, Carr spoke about refereeing multiple matches at WWE’s Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, where she discussed Edge helping her make history. “So, this was something that kind of happened progressively, starting at SummerSlam,” said Carr. “At this point in his career, Edge likes collaborating with people he is comfortable with within the ring, as far as referees are concerned. Moreover, that person, for the longest time, has been Charles Robinson. At SummerSlam, Charles was not booked to be there, and he was not planned to be there. So, it was a discussion between him and Edge of ‘hey, do you want to give Jessika a chance? I think Jessika would be a good possibility.’ He was all about it; Edge was, allowing me to learn, be in the ring with someone who has gone through all the things he has in his career. So that was the first step of doing it at SummerSlam. Moreover, I stepped up to the plate, got all the kudos for that, and it was amazing. The second chapter of that was Madison Square Garden, which was very shocking because Charles was there. I do not know whose decision that was or what the story was with that. Nevertheless, being at Madison Square Garden and having Edge vs. Seth was another little tip in the hat. That was awesome.” Credit: WWE She continues to speak about how Edge suggested her for Crown Jewel. “So that was another where I stepped up to the plate, and I was standing in Gorilla with Edge. Moreover, Edge asked Vince, ‘can we have her in Saudi Arabia?’ Vince was like, ‘hmm…yeah, I think we can make that happen.’ Things had to be put in place as far them. I guess communicating with whom they had to communicate within Saudi. Then it has to go through a few extra steps and layers to make sure everyone is okay with it. And then I guess the week before I started hearing, ‘yeah, you have the cage in Saudi. You have the cage in Saudi. “Furthermore, it was like, ‘okay, all right.’ If anything, what you learn, at least I have learned, is you cannot get excited about things until they happen because so many things come into play as far as things changing and schedules changing and matches changing, especially in the days of COVID. So, many things could change. I do not get excited about things until they happen, so not until the cage came down and I was standing in the ring and looking around as I like ‘okay. You can get excited now.'” Carr expressed how it was a massive deal for her to be a part of this show, particularly when she received much support from the WWE Universe. She also spoke about staying focused as she transitioned from refereeing the Edge-Seth Rollins Hell in a Cell match to umpirage the King of the Ring finals later in the card. Credit: WWE “I had that feeling of ‘this is a big deal,'” Carr said. “Even before the match, looking out at the people, they were chanting ‘Lady ref! Lady ref!’, which was cool. I felt support from the people. Even backstage, a gentleman asked, ‘are you going to be in control tonight? Are you going to be in charge?’ I said, ‘yeah. Yeah, I am.’ He was like, ‘oh, that is cool.’ It was different for them, too, I guess. So, it was special, incredibly special. And then I do the cell match, and they are like, ‘we have got another one. We have got the King of the Ring finals with Finn Balor and Xavier Woods too.’ I was like, ‘okay. When that is done, the next step. What is next in about an hour?'” Carr was questioned about working in the hot conditions of Saudi Arabia and shared that most of the arena did not have air conditioning. However, she was still equipped, teasing it was all due to training under WWE Legend D’Von Dudley at the beginning of her career. “To be honest, that was something that I wore all day, and it was in the ’90s all day,” Carr said. “Believe it or not, we had the appearance of a stadium and whatnot, but there was not much indoor space that was air-conditioned back there. It was a lot of mini rooms, I guess, you can call it, spread throughout the site. However, it is funny because people ask me, ‘wasn’t it hot?’ I trained at the D’Von Dudley Academy without AC for years, so I was fully prepped for that.” Watch the full interview of Jessika Carr below. #CrownJewel #JessikaCarr

  • Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez Meet Again At Halloween Havoc

NXT 2.0 Halloween Havoc ends with Mandy Rose becoming the new NXT Women’s Champion after defeating Raquel Gonzalez. The reign of Gonzalez has seized, but at what cost? Overall, there seems to be something that many have forgotten. The ending of this match lands us back to a rivalry that everyone assumed was over. A masked attacker appears with a shovel, striking the former champion across the back. Unmasking herself, Dakota Kai reveals that she is the one that has cost Gonzalez the match and now the NXT Women’s Championship. The return of Dakota Kai leaves many questioning the future of the NXT women’s division while reopening the door to an unfinished feud. One might ask, does Rose now owe Kai a favor down the line? As important as this may seem, the most crucial aspect of this encounter is the feud between Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez that was left unfinished. The former friends, now brutal enemies, have a history that lands them beyond becoming the first NXT Women’s tag team champions. For many weeks, these women became the most dominating tag in NXT. Gonzalez defends Kai, playing as a bodyguard for each match. Kai returns the favor when Gonzalez wins the title, going after every single opponent that comes in the way of the NXT Women’s Championship. Kai shocks everyone when she attacks the former NXT Women’s Champion, leading to their devastating meet-up at NXT Takeover 36. Photo credit: WWE This match is the only one within this feud that we must look back on, and honestly; we need more. The pause in their quarrel left some nervousness, expecting no time for a revisit. Even with the win at Takeover, Gonzalez will not get rid of Kai that easily. This return puts Gonzalez on notice while displaying Kai’s dominance over the division. Furthermore, now, the response of Gonzalez awaits the WWE Universe. #DakotaKai #nxt #RaquelGonzalez

  • Io Shirai Updates Fans After Bad Ladder Bump at WWE NXT Halloween Havoc

This Tuesday, Io Shirai took a nasty fall off the top ladder during the Scareway to Hell Ladder Match. Halloween Havoc opened the show with Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions by defeating Io Shirai, Zoey Stark, and Indi Hartwell, and Persia Pirotta. There was a spot where Hartwell and Shirai fought over the ladder, but Indi was knocked off. Shirai continued to climb up the ladder until Indi tipped the ladder over, sending Shirai flying off the ladder, crashing onto a ladder bridge from the apron to the announce table. The loud smack onto the floor caused fans to chant “holy sh*t!” while Hartwell, without breaking character, seemed worried from the ring. The Japanese star’s bump was a frightening moment leaving many questioning for an update on her health. After the show, Shirai tweeted that she was just upset about losing the titles. “I am not dead. I will always keep getting up to do my best. Just sad that the title is not on my waist.” She also wrote a message to Indi Hartwell saying, “I HATE INDI HARTWELL.” I am not dead. I will always keep getting up to do my best. Just sad that the title is not on my waist…#HalloweenHavoc #WWENXT pic.twitter.com/b6sqoS5eds — IYO SKY (@Iyo_SkyWWE) October 27, 2021 The match marked the end of her Tag Team Title streak alongside Stark, which means the strange couple tag team could part ways for now. The rumors are speculating that Shirai might be called up to the main roster soon. However, we have to wait and see what is next for Stark and Shirai since they are no longer champions. Later in the show, Toxic Attraction would take a clean sweep as Mandy Rose by dethroning Raquel Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Championship. Check out Shirai’s awkward landing on the ladder, before bouncing onto the floor.
