There’s a new face sitting atop the NJPW STRONG division, and her name is Giulia.
Despite Willow Nightingale’s best efforts to retain her championship gold, STARDOM’s Giulia would overcome the champion’s powerhouse offense with her signature Northern Lights Bomb to capture the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship on the second night of the company’s Independence Day show in Japan.
Giulia first called out Nightingale for a shot at her title in a post-match promo after her Donna Del Mondo faction defeated STARS in a 6-Woman Cage Match at STARDOM in Sunshine 2023 last June 25th. The former World of STARDOM Champion has publicly expressed her interest in wrestling overseas to further broaden her wrestling experience with her NJPW championship victory possibly being her first step in doing so. By winning the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship, Giulia officially becomes a double champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling and World Wonder Ring STARDOM where she currently holds the Artists of STARDOM Championship (STARDOM’s trios tag team belt) alongside her Donna Del Mondo faction members Thekla and Mai Sakurai.
Joshi puroresu enthusiasts have also begun speculation on a potential Giulia vs. Mercedes Moné match for the prior’s newly won NJPW STRONG championship in the near future. While Moné’s injury recovery status is yet to be disclosed publicly, fans of both women are eyeing a bout between the two in the near future once Mercedes is cleared for in-ring competition.
