Mercedes Martinez Talks About The Growth Of ROH Women’s Division

The interim Ring of Honor Women’s Champion, Mercedes Martinez sits down with AEW Unrestricted. She opens up about winning the Ring of Honor Women’s Championship and making her debut in AEW. In addition, she talks about her role in the importance of progression within women’s wrestling.

Thoughts on being interim Ring of Honor Women’s Champion:

“I take a lot of pride in when companies give me a title because they are giving me the ball to run with and bring their women’s division to another level. And that’s really what I take pride in.” She continues, “For me to hold that title now in my career, it’s something that I take really to the heart, so I’m just hoping that I can just do it justice.”

Thoughts on wrestling Willow Nightingale:

“I love Willow, I met Willow a couple of years ago.” She says, “I actually wrestled her back in 2018 for Shimmer, she was very excited, very nervous.” She commends her growth saying, “Going into this Ring of Honor match, she was really focused, really determined, really came into her own.”

Thoughts on making her AEW debut against Thunder Rosa:

“I don’t think I could have made any better of a debut than against [Thunder] Rosa because sometimes when you’re good friends, you can also be better enemies.”

Next Wednesday, Martinez will face off with the current ROH Women’s World Champion, Deonna Purrazzo. The match will take place on AEW Dynamite, as Martinez gives Purrazzo her first match in AEW.
