Another Queen of the Ring Tournament, or Queen’s Crown Tournament as it was known in 2021, maybe on the horizon for WWE fans.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is considering bringing back the premium live event King of the Ring in 2023. The last full event was held in 2015, and the one before that was in 2002. In addition to the King of the Ring tournament, a tournament for the women’s roster would likely follow. Triple H is also rumored to restructure the premium live event calendar for next year, including eliminating Day 1.
“There is talk of bringing back the King of the Ring tournament with a show that would be both King of the Ring and Queen of the Ring.”
In 2021, Zelina Vega became the first female winner of the Queen’s Crown Tournament. Prior to competing against Doudrop in the Crown Jewel event final, she had defeated Toni Storm and Carmella. Due to the short length of the matches, the tournament received a great deal of negative feedback from the spectators. Most of them last under two minutes. The duration of the final match was nearly six minutes.
The victory propelled Vega to a string of victories and ultimately a Women’s Tag Team Championship reign with Carmella.
Relive the Queen’s Crown Tournament finals at 2021’s Crown Jewel.
