Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonor Recap

Friday night kicked off a busy yet exciting weekend of wrestling as I had the chance to attend Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonor at the historic 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. This is the second year in a row that ROH hosted Death Before Dishonor and the Philly crowd did not disappoint. In the main match card we had three big women's matches that shows the women's division of Ring of Honor is something to keep on your radar. We kicked off with the Ring of Honor Pure Women's Championship match between Deonna Purrazzo and Steph DeLander that was under Pure Rules. It has been great to see Steph DeLander back on television the last few weeks while still showing fans she can still go in the ring. Even though this was out of DeLander's comfort zone with the match including technical submissions, she brought the fight and can be another addition to the ever growing ROH Women's Division. In the end, Deonna Purrazzo retained the ROH Pure Women's Champion and looking forward to continue watching her reign.

The next match was a Fatal Four Way match for the Ring of Honor Women's TV Championship between Red Velvet, Zayda Steel, Marina Shafir, and Skye Blue. I want to give a shout out to Red Velvet for holding it down as the reigning Ring of Honor Women's TV Champion that sometimes does get overlooked and would not sleep on her one bit. All four ladies brought it in the fatal four way match plus having Jon Moxley doing commentary was priceless. The future looks bright in the Ring of Honor Women's Division and happy it was in the full spotlight throughout the show. Congratulations to Red Velvet retaining the Ring of Honor Women's TV Champion in a hard fought battle.

We fast forward to the main event as the forever Ring of Honor Women's World Champion Athena takes on Stardom's Hazuki. This was one of the most anticipated matches on the card considering this is the first time Hazuki is competing on a main event PPV which speaks volumes and enjoying the presence of Stardom in the AEW/ROH space post Forbidden Door. The match lived up to the expectations as we see two powerhouse women colliding in the ring that had the fans at their feet. Hazuki was a few steps closer being the new Ring of Honor Women's Champion but in the end Athena got the victory and continues to prove she is still the main face of the Ring of Honor Women's Division.

After the show, I had the pleasure of attending the media scrum that I got to ask Deonna Purrazzo her biggest takeaways to hosting Battle for the Brave as a first time wrestling booker and Tony Khan about the positive response from the wrestling community for Rebel after her diagnosis with ALS.
