Anna Jay has turned heads by joining the Jericho Appreciation Society. We’ve just seen a little of Anna’s new attitude and demeanor, but she appears destined for greatness and a significant acquisition for JAS. She’s been on AEW for two years, and she’s now getting her chance.
Anna Jay debuted in AEW when she lost to Hikaru Shida on Dynamite on April 1st, 2020. Later that month, she joined AEW despite having few matches at the time. She began wrestling in 2018, but a shoulder injury kept her away for 6 months. She mostly wrestled for GPW and Empower Wrestling, but had just 5 bouts when she met Hikaru Shida.
Jay’s first major story was in July 2020 when she teamed with Tay Conti as Tay Jay to compete in the AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup. The pair made it to the semi-finals where they were defeated by Diamonte and Ivelisse. After a couple of months of the Dark Order seemingly trying to convince Anna to join them, it was announced she was the newest member of the Dark Order in August 2020. She was the first and, at this point, the only woman to have been a part of the Dark Order. Anna continued to wrestle matches on Dynamite and Dark. By November, she was challenging Hikaru Shida in a match on Dynamite for the AEW Women’s Championship. Although it was a losing effort, Jay didn’t let it faze her and she continued to train and seemed to get better each week.
Anna had a shoulder injury in February 2021 and was out for seven months. Jay had to miss the AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament. In September, she protected Tay Conti from the Bunny and Penelope Ford. She was announced for another tournament- the TBS Women’s Championship tournament that occurred the following month in November 2021. Jay was unsuccessful in the tournament, losing in the first round to Jayme Hayter. She battled Jade Cargill for the TBS Championship and lost. She also engaged in the historic street fight on the NYE episode of Rampage with Tay Conti.
For the majority of 2022, Anna Jay mostly has been competing on AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation. Tay Conti started dating Sammy Guevara and was involved in stories with him which seemed to put Anna Jay in an awkward spot on the roster. She did face Jade Cargill for the TBS Championship at Double or Nothing in another losing effort. On week 1 of Fyter Fest a couple of weeks ago, Anna faced Serena Deeb in her first match on TV in months.
Deeb beat Jay and as a result, Anna had a banged-up knee that was being tended to backstage when Tay Conti decided to pay a visit to her former friend. She told Jay that she was making “poor choices” and seemed to extend an invitation to join JAS. The following week on Fyter Fest week 2, Chris Jericho was in a Barbed Wire Everywhere match facing rival Eddie Kingston. JAS members were held in an elevated shark cage while Eddie’s friend, Ruby Soho controlled the shark cage.
Tay Conti attacked Ruby to seize the controller so her JAS teammates could aid Jericho. Anna Jay assaulted Ruby when she attempted to fight back, aligning herself with Tay Conti and the rest of JAS. The next week on Dynamite, Anna threatened to choke out arena spectators. She had a brand new look and a brand new attitude. She even referred to herself as “Anna JAS” to a loud chorus of boos from the live crowd. In the next Rampage, she defeated Ruby Soho by unlawfully utilizing her wrist brace to administer the QueenSlayer.
It will be very interesting in the coming weeks to see how far Anna Jay takes her new personality. Chris Jericho has praised her on commentary and in front of the live crowd. I adore how wonderfully Jay and Tay Conti work together. Anna may need this effort to get noticed by admirers. She is still so early in her career, so the possibilities are endless for things she could do in AEW. As this new Anna Jay, I could easily see her as an AEW Women’s Champion or a TBS Champion.
