The Shiniest Wizard: Tegan Nox

Tegan Nox is the first female Welsh WWE superstar to come out as bisexual, and her exposure has already saved a life. Nox, whose real name is Steffanie Newell, came out publicly in July 2020, and in an episode of WWE’s The Bump, Tegan Nox declared her bisexuality.

Tegan Nox joined WWE in 2017 after many years of competition on the independent circuit. The 27-year-old then tore her ACL, preventing her from competing in the Mae Young Classic later that year.

In 2018, Nox returned to competition by competing in the Mae Young Classic. During her quarterfinal match against Rhea Ripley, though, she sustained a second knee injury. In July of 2019, Nox returned to NXT after almost another year away from ring activity.

During an interview with Newsweek, Nox spoke about coming out on social media,

“My life has always been a “don’t ask, don’t tell” situation, but I felt like it was the right time, especially when you’ve found the right one, you’re in love with. It was the right time to do that. The reaction has been great. There are a few people who obviously don’t agree with that, but 99 percent of the reactions have been positive. I’ve got texts coming through from so many colleagues and friends. It was nice. It’s great to see that there are so many nice people in the world.”

After living for years under a self-imposed “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, the 27-year-old wrestler told PinkNews that she has been “blown away” by the number of people she has helped just by being herself.

“I’ve been out to friends and family for a while, they all know that it doesn’t matter if you’re male or female to me, if you make me laugh, make me happy, I’m all for it. It’s just always been a don’t ask, don’t tell situation with me, if no one asked, then I’m not going to say anything, you know?”

Nox indicated that the response was positive. There are undoubtedly a few individuals who disagree, but the overwhelming majority of responses have been good. She received several messages from coworkers and friends. It was lovely. It’s wonderful to see so many kind individuals in the world.

Nox revealed how Raw star Sonya Deville, an MMA fighter who came out years ago, helped her.

“Before I did this, I had spoken with Sonya. She was of immense assistance. She provided me with her phone number and instructed me to contact her if I needed anything. Consequently, we maintain a great deal of communication about this matter. My family knew, but my fans did not, so she’s a tremendous help to the fans. Consequently, she assisted me in bringing it to light.”

The star of the NXT Women’s division makes her WWE main roster debut on Smackdown after recuperating from another in a long string of serious knee ailments. Nox and Shotzi Blackheart formed a tag team and defeated then-champions Natalya and Tamina to immediately enter the WWE Women’s Tag Team championship picture. Nox amassed victories while being denied a championship bout. Now that she has been released from WWE, she has reclaimed her previous character Nixon Newell. The possessor of the Shiniest Wizard strives to illuminate the any ring by visually emulating the concept of tenacity.
