Top 5 Moments: Naomi

Glow- To shine brightly and steadily.

Naomi (Trinity Fatu) has the beauty, style, and grace that screams all the Black Girl Magic ever since she entered the doors of the WWE. Naomi had shown her versatility from teaming up with Cameron to form the Funkadactyls in 2012 to being on Total Divas. Naomi deserves her flowers for kindness, creativity, and athleticism. She isn’t pushed enough, but that is a rant for another day. With that being said, here are five moments from Naomi’s career that I love.

#5 Naomi & Her Glow Title

WWE is known for having certain wrestlers have unique edition belts. In June 2017, Naomi debuted a new look to her SmackDown Women’s Championship. The title was called the “glow in the light” title, a belt enhanced with LED lights to match her “Feel the Glow” gimmick. The belt was eye-catching and something unique that I, for one, appreciated. While Naomi will lose her title at SummerSlam 201, this was a title that I wished had more time to shine. This title was also not available for fans to purchase though I would’ve loved to see it be one that fans could order.

#4 Naomi & The FCW Diva’s Championship

The FCW (Florida Championship Wrestling) Divas Championship was a championship for the developmental territory of WWE. On June 10, 2010, there was an eight-woman tournament. The tournament featured AJ Lee, Naomi (Naomi Night), Serena Debb, Tamina, Jamie Keyes, Aksana, Liviana, and Savannah. In the finals, we had Naomi vs. Serena Debb. Naomi will win this match, and she became the inaugural champion and the first African American to win the title. Naomi held the title for an impressive 189 days. The second-longest title reign was after Raquel Diaz (Shaul Guerrero), who had it for 197 days. This title will eventually become the NXT Women’s Championship.

#3 Naomi & AJ Lee (NXT Season 3)

Naomi and AJ were 2 of the contestants on NXT Season 3, Diva exclusive having only women on this season. The women included rookie divas being paired with pros. We had A.J. Lee paired with Primo, Jamie paired with The Bellas, Maxine paired with Alicia Fox, Aksana paired with Goldust, Kaitlyn paired with Vickie Guerrero, and Naomi paired with Kelly Kelly. One of the matches this era produced was the match-up between AJ Lee and Naomi on November 23, 2010 (my birthday).

This match doesn’t get talked about enough as both women showcased their skills and allowed them to shine. I would’ve loved to see both AJ and Naomi have a solid feud, but WWE never gave that to us. Both were rookies, and both shared a hell of a match. While some may disagree with me, I stand with this match.

#2 WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal

The inaugural woman Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal was featured on the Kickoff Show for WrestleMania 34. This match featured amazing women like Sasha Banks, Natalya, Bayley, Dakota Kai, Bianca Belair, and Naomi.

Bayley thought she had won the match, but Naomi was never eliminated. Naomi eliminated Bayley and became the inaugural winner for the first WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal. She received a trophy for this moment. This was also her second big victory at back-to-back years at WrestleMania.

Extra Moments:

Team B.A.D. & Royal Rumble Moments

Team B.A.D. (Beautiful and Dangerous) was made up of Naomi, Tamina, and Sasha Banks, the latter joining in a bit later. Naomi and Tamina were constantly outnumbered by The Bellas and Alicia Fox and Stephanie McMahon called for a “revolution” of the diva’s division. She introduced the debuting NXT Women’s Champion Sasha to join them. This faction could’ve been a big thing, but they didn’t last that long. However, I loved them together.

Naomi also had some amazing Royal Rumble moments that always had me cheering for her to win the rumble. She has used the barricades, the ring steps, and the announcer chair to avoid elimination. One of my favorites was in the 2021 Royal Rumble she had a spot with Bianca Belair involving using Bianca’s hair to stay in the match and I loved it. They worked together and it was a highlight for me.

# 1 Naomi and WrestleMania 33

Naomi first won the SmackDown’s Women’s Championship on February 12, 2017, at Elimination Chamber. She competed against Alexa Bliss and was victorious. Naomi became the SmackDown Women’s Champion for the first time. This was also pretty monumental because she became the first African American woman to hold this title.

However, her reign was cut short as she sustained an injury at Elimination Chamber, leading her to relinquish the title. Alexa regained the title during that time after defeating Becky Lynch. This leads us to a Smackdown Women’s Championship six-pack challenge at WrestleMania 33, where Alexa would defend her title against Carmella, Becky Lynch, Natalya, Mickie James, and Queen Naomi. Naomi was a surprise entrance to the crowd of Orlando, which is her hometown.

Naomi was gone for about a month, and she came in ready to regain the gold she had never lost. Naomi was able to make Alexa Bliss submit to win the title back. This match was also the first time the SmackDown Women’s Championship was defended at WrestleMania. Naomi would go on to hold the belt for 140 days.

I can’t wait to see what Naomi does next in WWE. And with this storyline with Sonya Deville, I’m hoping it leads with Naomi being a top name and winning the title again soon. Naomi is one of my favorites, and it’s time people notice how she is the package that needs to be pushed much more.

Until next time, this is Katrina signing out.
