Queen Aminata Wins TBS title

Over the past few years, Queen Aminata has been putting in the work to truly be seen as an huge talent on the AEW roster.

During this past year, I was curious if they were going to give her the opportunity to hold some gold.

I thought that maybe that opportunity come from her great run in ROH. Maybe holding the ROH women’s tv or pure championship. However, it actually came together a few week’s after a main event worthy match between Aminata and the current women’s world’s heavyweight champion Mercedes Moné.

On this special Fright Night episode of AEW Dynamite, Aminata took on Persephone. A champion that felt confident coming into this match that no one could stop her reign.

We immediately see that Queen Aminata is all business. Looking like she has a laser focus and steel like strength as she delivers some stiff chops to her opponent’s chest early on.

This kind of wakes up Persephone as we see these ladies start to deal out blows.

Persephone tries to get a head lock in, but the quick Aminata moves outside of the ring, and comes back in time to deliver her signature chocolate kisses move to upset the champ.

Britt Baker is by Persephone’s side, taunting Aminata at ringside, dressed as Ms.Trunchbull from Matilda. Kudos to her for that very nostalgic and humorous costume choice.

Anywho.. back to the match, as we come back from the commercial break towards the middle of the match, Persephone is in control. Having Aminata twisted like a pretzel near the ropes.

Aminata maneuvers out of the hold and tries to get a pin, but the champ kicks out.

Aminata effectively gets in a double foot stomp from the middle ropes, but almost gets her top taken off by the cocky champ . When the ref puts an end to her attempt Persephone gets a German suplex in.

Britt Baker comes in the clutch when Aminata almost goes for the win. This doesn’t discourage Aminata as she attempts the double foot stomp again on Pershone on the ring apron.

Britt Baker, in a desperate attempt,  grabs the title and knocks out Aminata. Then throws her back in the ring. As Baker also pulls Persephone to her feet to get the pin.

Perspshone goes to the top rope, moonsaults, goes for the pin, but Aminata stops the pin. To the dismay of the champ.

A quick thinking Aminata delivers a vicious headbutt and this gets her the win.  As well as the announcement that she is the NEW women’s TBS champion.

Many of the babyface on the women’s roster come out to celebrate with Amanita. Confetti and streamers fill the ring and you can see a sincerely joyful and tearful Aminata take in this moment. One that she has worked for for so long. This is absolutely well deserved.

My hope and my prayer is that Aminata keeps this championship for a while and has some amazing feud along the road. Welcome to the TBS championship reign of Queen Aminata!!
